Manage Your Suppression List
Intended for when you are migrating from another email platform or need to prevent specific email addresses from receiving messages.
What a Suppression List Is
At its core, a suppression list is a list of email addresses that should not receive emails from you, typically due to people who have opted out of receiving messages from you.
When a suppression list is in place, imported or newly added contacts are checked against it and then email addresses on the suppression list are excluded from email sends. This prevents messages from being sent to people who have selected not to receive them anymore.
When You Need to Import a Suppression List
If you are moving to Oomiji from another email marketing platform (such as MailChimp or Constant Contact), you must import your existing suppression list during account setup. Always import your suppression list before importing contacts. Importing contacts first may result in marketing emails being sent to people who have previously opted out.
To do so:
- Start by downloading the CSV file of your suppression list from your previous platform. Only csv files are supported.
- Remove all columns except Email.
- Log into Oomiji > Open the Database section.
- Click Import Contacts > Select Import Suppression List.
- Upload your file.

If you do not have an existing suppression list file, you can download the Oomiji suppression list template from the Upload File screen. The template contains a single column (Email). Add one email address per row, save the file as a CSV, then follow the steps above.
After the upload completes, you will see a confirmation screen showing the total number of emails added to the suppression list.

Viewing and Managing Your Suppression List
If a user unsubscribed by mistake, and you need to move someone back to the Database, do the following:
- Open the user menu in the top-right corner.
- Select Manage Suppression List.
- Locate their record in the suppression list.
- Click the three dots to the right of their entry.
- Move them back to the Database.
You must have their express permission before doing this, or you may violate email regulations such as CAN-SPAM Act.
What’s Next
Once your suppression list is in place, any new or imported contacts are automatically checked against it. You are now ready to import your contacts. See Importing Contacts into the Database.
